Dear Reader,
Welcome to Between Calls, your weekly dose of hand-picked stories from the worlds of digital marketing, wellness & science. Blending commerce, consciousness & curiosity Between Calls brings you insights to make you think & think again.
In this week’s edition, we’re starting with the rise of deepfakes and their impact on media and truth. Then, we’ll shift our focus to wellness, examining the crucial elements contributing to brain health and learn tips to keep our mind sharp. Finally, we journey into the realm of physics to uncover how the Higgs boson also known as the God(damn) particle is reshaping our understanding of the universe. Happy reading!
Kabir says –
What’s common between research on deepfakes, brain health and the god particle? They are all about peering into layers of reality, whether virtual, mental or existential.
DIGITAL MARKETING
Deep Faking It
With just a picture and an audio clip of your voice tools can now replicate you and create content. With just a few steps and multiple tools now accessible to nearly anyone, creating content that mimics reality is not just possible, it’s easy. But as the boundaries blur between the real and the artificial, we face new challenges. How do we distinguish between what’s real and what’s not and what implications could this have for our future? You must stay informed and have a conversation with your family about it.
WELLNESS
Brain Health
Moving onto a lighter topic, how’s your brain doing today? Harvard Health recently wrote about the importance of keeping our brains healthy and came up with a 21 point scorecard to rate it. It turns out that maintaining a healthy brain involves a lot more than the occasional crossword puzzle. From managing stress to ensuring physical activity and proper nutrition, every little bit counts. So next time you consider skipping that morning walk or meditation session, remember your gray matter could use the exercise as much as your muscles do. Review your daily habits and possibly make some mindful adjustments, your brain will thank you for it.
SCIENCE
The God Particle
There is something about highlands, solitude and walking which has inspired some of the greatest scientific ideas of our age. Peter Higgs, a nobel prize winner got the idea of his lifetime during one such walk. This led to the now famous higgs boson particle which pointed to a fifth force of nature. It took 48 years for large hadron colliders to prove what Higgs was pointing to was in fact true. And that was enough to upend the standard model of physics. It was so elusive to detect what Peter Higgs had predicted that it was also called the ‘Goddaman particle’ which later was shortened to the ‘God Particle’. Peter Higgs died earlier this year but his legacy will live on forever. Do give it a read, it will be time well spent.
PROMPTITUDE
Ignite Ideas, One Prompt At A Time: Plug in this prompt to any LLM to understand more about the ‘Higgs boson’ particle.
“Drawing on your decades of experience in particle physics, create a guide that demystifies the Higgs boson for beginners. Start with an overview of the Higgs boson, often called the “God particle,” and its crucial role in providing mass to elementary particles. Explain key concepts like the Higgs field and particle mass generation with simple analogies. Break down how scientists at the large hadron collider observed the Higgs boson through particle collisions. Maintain a clear, step-by-step approach, using straightforward examples to illustrate complex theories. Provide a detailed summary that helps novices understand how the Higgs boson interacts with other particles in the universe and it’s role in the development of thinking in the field of physics”
FROM THE BOOKSHELF
To do this week : Curious about the connection between your breathing and brain health? Let’s hear from Dr. Yewande Pearce, a neuroscientist who explains how controlled breathing can influence our nervous system and create tranquility. Watch Video.
